Beltane is a traditional festival celebrated by Celtic communities in Ireland in early May. Traditionally Beltane is celebrated about the 1st of May.
In the past Druids lit bonfires on top of a hill and led the cattle through the fire to purify it for luck. People also leapt across bonfires. The festival with bonfires on the occasion of Beltane has been held on the night of May 1st in the city of Edinburgh. since 1988.
